Most people think of field hockey as a “Meh” sport, even though its VERY fun. Didn’t you know that field hockey isn’t exactly like hockey? In field hockey, you use a ball, not a puck. Also, in field hockey, your sticks are shaped like a cane. Did you know that in field hockey, you can only use one side of the stick? The list could go on. Let me tell you how to PLAY field hockey. The positions are: Center Forward, Left Wing, Right Wing, Center Mid, Left Mid, Right Mid, Sweeper, 2 Fullbacks, and sometimes, a goalie. The forwards, of course, are offense, and the fullbacks and the sweeper are defense. The “Mids” are kind of both. They make sure the ball doesn’t reach their team’s side of the field, and try to get open for passes on offense. The goalie wears all sorts of pads, and holds their stick in one hand. The goalie has boot-like pads so they can kick the ball away.
There’s also gear you need for field hockey, including a face mask(to protect your eyes), and a mouth guard. I play field hockey, we’re in the middle of the season right now, and, my grandma played field hockey when she was younger. My cousin is also starting to play field hockey.
